Check Etsy orders before you burn

Buyers type things like “Emma ❤️ (can you make it pink?)” into the name box, and the laser burns exactly that. Drop your Etsy orders file: get the orders to fix first, each with a message ready for the buyer, and a clean list of names for LightBurn.

Use the table in LightBurn

The column numbers never change, so a saved LightBurn template keeps working: lines of text are %0 to %9, a font the buyer typed (“Anna - font b”) is %10. Rows come grouped by product and font, and shipped orders are left out.

  1. Download your orders from Etsy. Shop Manager → Settings → Options → Download Data → Orders. Choose Order Items and the month, then Download CSV.
  2. Drop the file here and send the ready message to each buyer under “To check”.
  3. Download the table for LightBurn. One row per piece, no header row: LightBurn reads the first line as the first name.
  4. Set up the text. Type %0, press Enter, type %1 for a second line. Set the text mode to Merge CSV and, in Shape Properties, turn on Ignore Empty Vars and set a Max Width for your blank. Then Window → Variable Text → Browse and load the table, with Start at 0. Before LightBurn 2.1.04, also set End to the last row by hand.
  5. Fill the jig. Grid Array the text with “Auto-increment variable text” on, set Advance by to the number of pockets and turn on Auto-Advance. Check it in Preview before you run.

  1. Now, free: Etsy orders become a clean table for LightBurn, with checks and a ready message for each buyer. This part stays free.
  2. Next, the jig file: add your design without the name (it stays on your computer too) and place the name box once. Every name lands in its pocket, sized to fit, letters already outlined, for LightBurn, xTool or Glowforge.
  3. Later: Shopify and Amazon orders, presets for popular jigs, proof pictures for buyers.
